Responsive Drupal Web Development

As part of a BCMA, BC Ministry of Health initiative to connect patients with available GP’s, Vancouver Web App Developer built a responsive Drupal 7/PHP-based web site to enable the initiative’s staff to communicate the program to British Columbia’s population.  The site’s responsive nature enables the single site to adjust to desktop web browsers, tablets, and mobile phones (Android, iPhone, Windows Phone) without requiring additional pages or any a work on the part of the content editor.

Facebook Contest

Built using PHP and MySQL, this Facebook contest for Tourism Salzburg provided randomized trivia questions to fans of the Sound of Music film. After scoring a minimum number of correct questions the Facebook user could upload a photo and what they would do in Salzburg. These responses were voted on to determine the winner. Built in partnership with Think! Media, over 450 submissions were received, thousands of people took the quiz, and 6000+ ‘likes’ were created for the new Facebook page.

Mobile Web Site

In addition to native iPhone and Android application development, organisations must also consider how their web site looks when accessed using mobile devices. In order to provide a native app-like experience to Android, iPhone, and Blackberry visitors to their European sites, global PR firm Weber Shandwick (part of InterPublic) asked for consulting and design for their European sites. To help the Prince’s Trust charity achieve their goals of increased donations and interactions through social media, I donated my time to develop a new Facebook Application to celebrate the Trust’s 35th Anniversary. ‘Likes’ of the Trust’s page doubled over the course of a week. This private-event micro-site was coded for a light-hearted promotion for a television program identifying what type of person you might be in the world of dating. Designed only for the iPad this PHP, MySQL, JQuery site surveyed the visitor for personal registration details and romance-related questions and stored the information in the database.

PlanetAxel is a successful global retailer of films and games. Over a multi-year web development contract I integrated the site with Paypal for end-customers and administrative uses, developed a shopping recommendations engine, RSS feeds, and a
dynamic coupon-code system. PHP,
Scriptaculous, JQuery, XML, and the Paypal API were used.

YouTube integration and mySQL database PHP web design

In the case of the Almond Fresh video contest and newsletter, PHP, MySQL, and Jquery were combined with the YouTube API to allow contestants to upload their own videos and allow others to view these on the site using YouTube as the storage back-end. PHP Programming Contract: YouTube API integrated with PHP and MySQL database along with JQuery and HTML for user-interface interactivity.

Social Network Integration and XML Data Feeds

Cover It Live helps some of the largest media companies in the world cover live news, sports, and entertainment events with a real-time-chat application. My work involved integrating FaceBook, Twitter, and MySpace by using their application programming interfaces (APIs) and OpenID, as well as building two-way XML data feeds to receive and publish news event content in and out of the chat application. Web design technologies included: Joomla, PHP, XML, Memcached, Google Translate and the Facebook API were used for this freelance programming contract.

A personal blog about a motorcycle trip across North and South America, this was a site built by customizing the PHP-based CMS WordPress with GPS (SatNav) files exported to record the routes taken on embedded Google Maps. Technologies: WordPress, PHP, Google Maps API.
